Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical solution to restore a youthful appearance to ageing skin with little downtime.

Dermal Fillers restore volume and plumpness to the skin lost from the face due to ageing. In addition, Dermal Fillers can be used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, ranging from very fine to deep defects.

There are a number of factors which cause loss, and even damage, to levels of hyaluronic acid naturally present in the skin. These include, but are not limited to: ● Ageing ● Sun exposure and sun damage ● Smoking and exposure to cigarette smoke ● Repeated fluctuations in weight ● Genetic factors

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers are administered by careful and precise injections. Topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area before injections are administered. The procedure will take between 15-30 minutes, depending on your individual needs, and it is possible to leave the clinic immediately after the procedure. Most clients find that they are able to resume normal activities directly after treatment.

Immediately after the procedure, it is not unusual to experience swelling at the injection site, slight redness of the treatment area and some residual pain. On occasion, bruising can also occur.

Both redness and bruising can be covered up with makeup. It is also possible to apply a cold compress to the treatment area to help bring down the swelling caused by the body's natural inflammatory reaction.

It is important to note that although the results from the Dermal Fillers will be apparent, even immediately after treatment, that Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers will not usually drastically change your appearance.

The results from the procedure will be visible immediately. However, it is important to understand that the area will be swollen due to the body's natural inflammatory reaction and unavoidable trauma to the area, despite gentle application.

The swelling from the procedure will normally subside within 2-7 days. The hyaluronic acid will then further draw and retain water, causing slightly more plumpness.

The final result will be apparent 2 weeks following the procedure.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers are not permanent and will need to be topped up in order to maintain the result. The body will gradually metabolise the hyaluronic acid, and so it should be expected that twelve months following the procedure that all the injected hyaluronic acid will be metabolised. However, the visual effect of the loss of hyaluronic acid will be evident sooner. Depending on your individual needs, it is recommended to come in for a regular sessions every 4-6 months.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler injections have been used for over twenty years and are approved by the FDA. They are safe for most patients and are generally well tolerated, with most side effects clearing up on their own without intervention. However, like with all cosmetic procedures, there are side effects.

Typical side effects include; ● Pain ● Redness ● Swelling ● Bruising ● Persistent numbness around the treatment area; this usually will resolve itself in around 4-6 weeks

After having Dermal Fillers, it is advisable to follow our aftercare instructions in order to receive the best results possible and to reduce the risk of complications.

Following Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers: ● For the first week following treatment, it is advisable to treat the injection site with antibiotic ointment 3 to 4 times per day ● Avoid excessive facial movement for the first week following treatment ● Avoid strenuous physical activity for 24 hours following the procedure ● Avoid massaging or manipulating the treatment area for 24 hours following the procedure ● If you are taking any medications, these can resumed on the night of the procedure ● Avoid excessive exposure to the sun and use at least SPF30 ● If you should experience any pain following the procedure, Paracetamol can be taken for pain relief. Cold compresses can also be used, which will also help to bring down any swelling. ● It is common to experience bruising and swelling after the procedure. The swelling will usually resolve itself in 7-10 days, though it may persist for several weeks. Bruising can be treated with the use of warm compresses. Some clients find that black tea bags also can help with bruising due to the antioxidant content of black tea. It is also possible to take Arnica (a homeopathic remedy) a few days before the procedure and a few days after to help bring down swelling and bruising.

If necessary, you will also be booked in for a follow-up appointment to assess the shape and symmetry of the result, as well as the healing of the treatment area.

Despite Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers being proven as a safe anti-ageing treatment, the use of Dermal Fillers is contraindicated in some individuals.

You should not consider having Dermal Fillers if: ● You have a history of severe allergy or anaphylaxis to hyaluronic acid (or other substances) ● You have hypersensitivity to one of the components of the product ● You suffer from a severe bleeding disorder ● You have HIV ● You are pregnant or breastfeeding ● You have overall poor health
